About 15 years ago I heard a pastor named Will Bowen on Oprah. His vision was for a Complaint Free World. His mission was to help people go 21 days without complaining, blaming, or shaming.
He had made millions of bracelets that say A Complaint Free World and he was sending them out for free. He has sent out more than 11 million worldwide.
The idea was that you put the bracelet on and every time you complain, blame or shame you switch it to the other wrist. And the goal is to go 21 days without having to change the bracelet. I was IN.
I got one and wore it for almost 2 years. When I first got it, I was changing it back and forth ALL day. As time went on, I got a whole lot better. I even got through days without having to move it.
Many of my friends teased me about it. But I soldiered on. One thing it did very powerfully was to make me aware of my negative thinking. And I apparently had a lot. There were times it was worth it to complain (or so I thought), and I switched my bracelet. But at least I was noticing my stinking thinking and was making a choice about it. If nothing else, my awareness cut down on how long my complaint session lasted.
Eventually, my awareness got me to take action. When I was about to complain, I would ask myself “what can I do to solve this problem?” Or I would ask myself “is there some other way to look at this?” Instead of mindless negative mental chatter, I took action. What a lesson.
About a year ago I found myself in a dark place with my thoughts and I remembered that bracelet. I found a simple rubber band that had come with some asparagus. I put it on, and got back to the work of cleaning up my mind. I like the rubber band even better because I can snap it, a little pain to snap me out of my black hole.
Guess what? I started manifesting all kinds of miracles. There is a clear link between your thoughts and the manifestations in your life. I would like to challenge you to grab a rubber band and try this.
The rubber band works. Or any bracelet that is easy to move back and forth, because I bet you will be surprised how often you have to.
There are a whole lot of miracles awaiting you!
